Friday 27 April.

The fifth day, we visited Zakopane. It's one of the most famous skiing station in Poland, it's next to the Carpates, next to the Tatras exactly, the highest part of those mountains.
We also had a litlle cruise on a typical boat, which sailed between Poland and Slovakia.
The landscapes were very impressive and beautiful.

Saturday 28 April.

The sixth day, was the last day of the trip! We must take the plane at 19 o'clock approximately, so we had all the day for visiting. We went one more time in cracow to take the boat and visit the town from another view... it was great.
Afterwards, we visited some churches again. At 17 o'clock we were at the airport, ready to get back to Belgium. I was sad because I think the trip was too short...
At half past eight, we took off and arrived two hours after in Brussels airport. One more two hours and we were in La Roche, that was great to see our family and to came back home

Life in the hotel

Life in the hotel was cool;in the morning we had breakfast and during the day we visited many things in Poland(Cracow). But to me my favorite moment it's when we come back at the hotel, because you could have fun with your friends.

(Ps:Big thanks to oliver and Mathieu who are two good friends!)
Wonderful landscape

In Poland there are many wonderful places, girls and many wonderful landscapes.During my travel my friends and I went to the TATRAS mountains where we went a boating and could see beautiful, very peaceful and quiet woods
Dangerous Beer

In Poland there is a good law.If you are younger than 18 years old you are not allowed to drink beer or alcohol. My friends and I tried to drink one or two or three beers in a coffé,but the waitress asked us our ID-cards.Of course as we were not 18 years old so,we didn't drink any beer exept juice.

Reis Michael

The Castle of Wawel:

The Royal Castle courtyard - Krakow

The Wawel Castle used to be the residence of Polish monarchs from the 11th to the early 17th century. After Krakow lost its capital status to Warsaw, the Castle was occupied by foreign powers during various wars. The Castle offers a mixture of architectural styles and is home of a large arcaded inner courtyard

The dragon of Wawel:

Gaelle's questions about the film Crash

Why do all people have so much violence in their heart ?

What is the origin of racism ? (Is it natural or caused by a bad experience)

What are the motivations of racist people ?

Why are towns a source of violence ?

What place does jealousy take in racism ?

Is it a sacrifice to save someone. Is it natural ?

Gaelle's questions

1. How was the hotel ?

2. How many guides had you ?

3. When did you go to Auschwitz ?

4. Had you meet Polish ?

5. What did you eat ?

6. How was the landscape ?

7. Was it a good travel ?

8. How were teachers in travel ?

Wielicska (The salt mine).

Wednesday 25th of April we went to the salt mine in Wielicska. It's a very big mine. All the statues and the church are made of salt. It was very beautiful. The guide from the mine explained it very well, as she didn't speak to much you remember easier what she said. I didn't know that there were salt mines and I thought that salt was always white but we saw grey statues. Before the work in the salt mine was about the same than in a coal mine. Before the travel in Poland we saw the film "Germinal" and it explains how the workers' conditions were in the coal mine so I understand how difficult it was to work there.

Julie B

The guide and Polish.

The guide was a woman who spoke seven languages (Russian, Spanish, Polish, French, Italian, German, English) and she is learning Portuguese.
She knows Krakow very well. All the churches and the synagogue, the castle of Wawel, the middle of the town, the university, ... I think that you have to like your city to be a good guide. A person about whom the Poles are very proud is the pope Jean-Paul II. I'll never forget the Friday (after five days that the guide spoke us about the pope every day) when Catherine Petit asked if Jean-Paul II was Polish and neither the Saturday when the guide spoke us one more time about the pope we laughed very much.
The people in Poland isn't unpleasant. The Poles who work with tourists are a bit colder. I suppose it's because some tourists are very unpleasant, but if you ask something in English in the street they answer you with a big smile.

the pretty mountain!

During the trip we went in a little town named Zakopane.
Zakopane is one of the famous skiing station in poland!

I was very exited to went to Zakopane because I'm fan of the mountain sports!
I like skiing , walking, alpinism, climbing!!
The mountain up Zakopane are beautifull and impressing !

(This mountain look a little like the Cervin, don't you think?)

Text From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

" The Tatra mountains, Tatras or Tatra (Tatry in both Polish and Slovak), constitute a mountain range which forms a natural border between Poland and Slovakia. They occupy an area of 750km², the major part (600km²) of which lies in Slovakia. The highest Tatra peak, at 2655m, is Gerlachovský štít, (formerly Franz Joseph Peak), located in Slovakia. Rysy, at 2499m, is the highest Polish peak. The Tatra Mountains are the highest mountain massif of the Carpathian Mountains. Although considerably smaller than Alps, they are classified as having an alpine landscape. Their high-mountain character, combined with great accessibility, makes them an object of numerous studies."

In the tatras you can ski 7 to 10 month a year. The climat in Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains is determined by their geographic posision in the Central Europe ( where dominate west winds carring masses of cold air) and by the area relief.

When I was in zakopane with my friend Mathieu that was difficult to know that we are just next to a place were we can ski!
We want so much skiing but it was not possible :( ...
I think everyone how go in the Tatras would say that's very beautifull mountain!
The Tatras approximately like the Alps but in smaller...

Cracow

I now will speak about the town of Cracow a big city with an incredible large past. An enormous historical culture for this place which one can call crowned seen the many incredible one of religious states.
A place filled of many legends and myths. A fantastic architectural place which is worth really the glance..
A city which crossed the time between war and revolutions .. A city which knew misery and destruction!
This city deserved its heavy of gold because it has survived has any kind of disaster...
It’s true the life in Poland is poor but the country in general is very rich !!
I think there is one star in Poland and this name is Jean-paul 2..
I find it's normal that Jean - Paul 2 is a star because he was before any same Polish and he was the last pope, there are lot's of photos of him in this city or the religion is one part in the life of the people of this country. . .
We had eating Polish food and there is really good but lot's of carrots ...
But it's good for eyes no??? then why not !!!!

An example of racism.

I have never really been confrontated with racism in my life. So I don't have a good example to tell but not a long time ago I saw something on tv that really shockt me. It's about a shop that sells sandwiches and one day they had not enough people to help sow their was a friend who came and help them. The next day, one of the best client didn't want to buy his sandwich there anymore becaus the friend who helpt them was a black boy and the client said that it wasn't hygienisch. I found that very unkind and maybe you can think something like that but that's not a reason to tell that at the boy. I think that he feels really bad now. I find it really sad that such a things happen in the world and that there are many people who don't respect others anymore.

A beautiful city

Cracow is a very old and beautiful city. The first day of the trip the car droped we in one place and we visited a lot of old street and we saw a lot of churches. We had so one or two hours of free times when we can do what we want shopping, eating, drinking(but only without alchool drink).
And at the evening we went to a restaurant and we ate a polish meal(during this meal Olivier Michael and me smiled a lot.The second day we visited an other parts of Cracow and so the castel of wavel. In all the monument of Cracow our guids can say anything of the prefer person of poland jean paul 2 that is incredible where jean paul 2 was going.Sometimes when we had free time we can go and walked on the street. The last day we visited Cracow but on a "fly boat" that was pretty but a little boring. And after this visit on the boat we visited an abbey on the around of Cracow and it is a monk who do the visit and after we eat aspeciality from poland that was horrible, and that was the last of all the visits.

MY CONCLUSION

I think the film crash is the reflection of the reality because everywhere in the world racism is the same problems and I think crash is a documentary for informing the population gravity of this problems. I'm not going to Poland but I know the racism and it's horrible. In general the film is very emotional is not my favorite theme but in this context is a good feeling.

I think the bad point of the film is the reality of the film form me it was exagerated

I recommend this film because it is very intersting to see the life of black people in a city who are lot of discrimination.

my notation : **** -------> good film

THE MORALITY OF THE FILM CRASH

It might seem at time that the moral of the story in crash is one of empathy. or altruism. the redemption of society through individual choices and acts that might bind us together and keep society whole. And that might be the case. but even if it is, there is in the very form of a film like crash a sign of the times, and I mean sign in a double sense. crash describes the kind of society that in its dogged insistence on the individual has lost its humanity its society, its wholeness. crash says to us, this is what we have become, for we all recognize this. And in its statement, it poses the question , What, then, can we do? Anonymous encounter strangers helping strangers these are the elements of society when things come crashing down.

CRASH BY PAUL HAGGIS

This movie examines the taboo subject of race and race relations; how we see each other and how that impacts how we act, react, and live with one another. It opens with a car crash, a fender bender, that has a Hispanic woman trading insults with an Asian woman based on racial stereotypes over Asian driving habits. A Middle Eastern father and daughter are insulted as potential terrorists when they try to purchase a hand gun. Two young black males feel slighted at their service at a restaurant, evidence of racial discrimination; though at the hands of a black waitress, because she, too, thought in stereotypes about young black males. A white couple are the victims of a carjacking; a black couple the victims of a particularly nasty caharacter. A Hispanic man is shunned while doing his job because he looks like a criminal with his shaved head and tattoos.

Opinion about the film "CRASH".

The film "CRASH" is very emotional it's not like all the other films. When you see the film it's like a real story, like they are showing real family's. I think when you see the film it makes you go realise that we in Europe haven't got that kind of problems and that in America in some neighbourhoods it's really dangerous. I think that the people who are living their always are afraid, feel strained. I also saw in the film that the people in America can get easely a gun. If they would forbid that, maybe their will be much less violance. The good side of the film is that you can see that everybody has also a good side. For example when the white men was persecute by the police, he didnt denounce the black men who was next to him and had tried to steal the car. You really have to see the film so that you better understand racism and the feelings of people.

Poverty

I speak about poverty in poland. There are lot of poor people in poland i think. There are lot of beggar in centerplace and along the markets. They use animals like dogs so that the tourists expressed pity and gived money . They tryed to do the maximum of sale a day and they pushed tourists to buy the maximum of articles. There is much of craft industry.
This country is really really not expensive 1 pack of 20 cigarets for 1.50 euro...The Polish are really baddly dressed with old clothes.. It's normal for a poor country.. There are lot of old cars... The worst is than the poverty of this country made the wealth of the tourists...

An exellent atmosphere

The atmosphere on the group during the trip was perfect nobody was reject everybody with everybody, no cry no cries we were all happy to go in poland with our friends from school.
During the day we doen the visit the atmosphere was relax between teachers and students and at the evening we stay at a table in restaurant and we speak with a bier and the teachers so.
When the teachers sayd that we must go in the bedroom everybody go and stay in the bedroom exept Justin and Jérémy.It was the only litle problem during the trip because in the rest of the time we were so nice and the teachers were very proud.

Visit on the hell

The visit of Auschwitz was clearly the most important point of the trip and and we went in poland with school because we speak a lot about racism and Auschwitz is a big place of racism and discrimination. On the morning we leaved the hotel and we went to the first camp of auscwitz we have visited barraquements and gas chamber and we have seen this phrase on the entry "Arbeit macht frei".

On the afternoon we visited Birkenau it was very big and impressingt more big than Auschwitz and that camp have more organasation it is incredible .
I will never forget what i have seen.

Oswiecim (Auschwitz)

Thursday 26th of April, we went to Oswiecim, a little town in Poland. We went to the famous (unfortunately) camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Personally, during the visit I thought often about my grandfather because he had endured the war. He told me how it was in Belgium during world war II.
I have seen films about this war like each other I think. But you only understand all the atrocity when you visit Auschwitz. Even if you have visited it you can't imagine all the things that happened to people who got there. It's very difficult to imagine how it was with vermin, epidemics, hunger and thirst, exhaustion, unbearable cold or heat, death at every corner,... when it's peaceful and sunny and you have trees everywhere.
I understand that people who went to the camp during the war can't forget it, because we can't forget it too and we went there only one day to visit and fortunately not in the same conditions as them.
During the visit, I understood one very important thing, it's that we are very lucky. Even if we often moan because something is wrong, we have to think that we have a good situation. Never forget this sentence that's written on the entry of Auschwitz: Working sets you free. I think wherever you are you may be free in your mind. The song "Ma liberté de penser" from Florent Pagny says it too.

Julie B

A bad experience

Discrimination in all states. It make up the world.
I remember when I was at nursery school. If, we knocked our meal over, even without doing it intentionally, we had to lick the ground.
And, there was a black in our class. He had very spicy meal. When he spilled something, the teacher took him and put him in dustbin. She said that he was dirty.

The movie shows that all persons have good and badsides.
However, human keep an instinct of survival as show in the film when the cop saves the black woman’s life. He would havegiven his life for her.
There is some good in every person. But it’s sad that there is so much evil !

Gaelle.

CRASH: MY OPINION ABOUT THE FILM

My opinion.

The movie is very powerful. It plays on the emotions. The most engrossing is the reallity of things. It’s not a usual thriller. These lives are real and it’s sad and revolting to see so much discrimination. I don’t understand that there is much racism today.
To me, all people are the same. It’s so stupid to think of confllicts.
The film illustrates that very well. For exemple, when the racist cop saves the black woman.
I like this movie. I recommend « Crash ».
Gaelle.
Crash collision.

Crash is a very engrossing movie.
First, it’s the story of eight persons of all colours and different nationalities. Every story combines with the others.
There are violence, discrimination, racism,… but love and mutual aid.
It’s an emotion film, atmosphere film…
Right at the beginning, it’s a cop who kills an other cop, a black.
There is a story of a black detective who’s looking for his little brother, his mother is mad… he is lost. A Jewish loses everything and a locksmith has a daughter who almost gets killed.
A couple of black who live as whites have problems of racism…
All these things bring out the death of some people.
Wath can be done ?
Under despair, blacks, withes, Jewish,… buy weapons and commit mistakes because of rage, contempt, sadness…
Los Angeles, a city where there is a lot of discrimination… and yet their lives are distinct and similar but all the different ways of life are good to do a world.
The main thing is that every person, it no matter his origins is capable of the worse or the best.

Gaëlle.

Polish girls,beer and people

The Polish girls were really attractive, really more than in Belgium. Of after that I saw 75 % of the girls is really attractive, 10 % are averagely attractive and 15 % are not very attractive, these percentages are true (we have the eye of tiger) with michaël we looked well. People were not very cool but that has not us stop to amuse and to see full of beautiful things the LECH=beer maid was even if our beer is much better but more expansive. This journey was great...

Crime against humanity

In 1934, Hitler is proclaimed Führer, the chief of Germany. To reinforce his power, he encouraged the Gestapo to arrested the people opposed to him.

The first concentration camps were opened in Germany. The camps contained Jews, political prisonners, Tziganes, homosexuals, and Jehovah witnesses. The nazis used to register all the prisonners, the date of their arrival, the reason of their presence in the camp, the delicts committed, the punishments inficted, the cause and the date of their death.

The prisonners received, instead of their names, a number wich was tattoed on their arm. The punishments were unhuman and the prisonners could be killed at the slightest pretext. The food was rationed, the hard winters and illness made ravages. The prisonners sleeped in big dormitories, there were till ten in the same bed. Many prisonners were used like guinea-pig for medical experiences. Others were sent to factories near the camp to work like slave.

In 1941, the nazis realized that the elimination of Jews took too much time. Then, the Nazis decided to launch the final solution which means the extermination of the prisonners. For this, death camps were built. They installed gas chambers, which looked like shower rooms, and also crematorium.

Unfortunately this catastrophe which is called Shoah hasn't served of lesson.

Indeed since then, a lot of other crimes against humanity have been committed. Between 1975 and 1979, more than one million people were killed in Cambodia. In Rwanda in 1994, it was the massacre of the Tutsis. In the 1990, in Ex-Yugoslavia, the Serbians tried to create a pure race, they chased out several ethnic and religious groups.

These horrible facts are difficult to admit but they are still present.

Questions about the trip in Poland.

I didn't go to Poland with school so I have some questions:

Was there a good atmosphere or did you feel bad?

Is there a different culture then here?

Did you feel sad when you have visited Auschwitz?

What kind of work did the people in the concentration camp had to do?

Would you visit another concentration camp?

The salt mine of Wielickza

On Wednesday, April 25th, 2007,

We were to visiting a magnificent salt mine which left us fill bay because of its beautiful perfect sculptures and very attractive. In more we say that it is good for the self to inhale the air of this mine.

About the salt mine:
The deposit of rock salt of Wieliczka-Bochnia is exploited for the XIIIth century. He stages on nine levels and understands 300 km of galleries, where are sculptured in the salt of altars, Statues and other oeuvres of art, stages of a pilgrimage fascinating in the past of a big industrial concern. In 1996 the rock salt exploitation in the Wieliczka Salt Mine was stopped. At present salt is only produced from brine (saline water) in Modern Saline Water Utilisation Plant. On the markets are: iodic salt, "Salvita" salt, dietetic salt for people with high blood pressure, salt tablets, "Kinga" bath salt, "Regis" foot salt, and feed supplements for animals - "Wisole".

Questions about racism in the film.

What do people feel when they see someone from another race?

Why are they so scared in the United States of black people?

Do white and coloured people think different?

Is it really that bad in the U.S. as they showed in the film?

Is the racism getting better or worse all over the world?

What is racism??

To understand better what racism really is, I saw the film CRASH by Paul Haggis. Even not going to Poland, I understand better what racism means, by watching the movie. Somethimes the film was hard to look at, but the reality is there. The movie shows us that there is not only a conflict between white and coloured people, but also between coloured people themselves. Many people are afraid when they are in the neighbourhood of people of another race. They have a presumption. For example, there is a moment in the film that a black boy wants to show the policeman, that he's from the same religion as him. The policeman was afraid and thought that the black boy took his gun out of his pocket. So he shot the black boy.

Polish

I would like to speak about the people in Poland. They are not really fun and cool but really cold. They aren't really polite and sociable. I think it's because they are poor but it isn't a reason for disliking tourists. The people are very strict.. It's impossible to have one beer in one pub if you aren't eigtheen. it is a country with many problems whose courtesy is one of them . But it's one beautifull travel because Poland has many another advantages and a splendid and unforgettable landscape ...

Andrew

Beer in Poland !!!

I will want to speak about beer in Poland... it did not exellent but as any alcoholic drink it is drinkable...
We have drip 2 kind of Polish beer the LECH in the hotel and the ZYWIEC during the dance party....
.. The LECH is enough punt while the second is the same than the Jupiler in Belgium.. 2 good beer which we have drinking with moderation like always…Everyone had supported this good Polish beer of which we have enjoy each drops…A few small difficult moments for 1 or 2 students after a small evening well sprinkle…We have also to find a man working has the commune which has same passion that us, the beer... Haven't you Jean- Michel…
Andrew

RACISM: the Pianist

Unfortunately I haven' t gone on holiday to Poland with my school. I would have liked to go and to visited Auschwitz. But, I' m going to speak to about racism and about the film "the Pianist".
The film speaks about a mean, it' s a pianist, and it' s a Jew. At the begining, he has a normal life but when the Germans arrive in Poland, they killed the Jews in the street. He has a jellow star. After, he is put in a ghetto, one month later, he must go by train to go in a camp. But, he escapes and he gets friends, many friends help him. He is hungry, he is thirty, he escapes at Germans. He is arrested and he goes to a work camp. In the camp, he works much and he doesn't have much to eat. During the wole weeks, they are selections, the weak are killed, Jews has a plan to escape, he escapes before the plan and he masks him in a house. He is in a house and German comes at this house, but it's a good German and he plays the piano for Germans. It' s the end of the war and Jews are free.

For me it' s a good film, it' s the real life on a Jew during the Second world war. It' s not very violent and he isn' t sent to a concentration camp. It' s the most know form of racism but they are many different forms, people of different religions, colours,...But the racism againt Jews in the second world war is very violent, 6 million Jews were happily.

Sum up of the trip.

Monday 23th april .

I had decided that i don’t sleep this night because i must get up at 02.14 am to be on time at the start of our trip with school in Poland !
So at 03.00 am I’m next to the swimming pool where the bus are ready to start.
We had taken the road in direction of Bruxelles airport !
The majority of my class had never took the plane so they were stressed and they don’t know exactly what they have to do…
We enter in the plane at 07.30 am and the plane take off at 08.00am and we arrive at 10.00 am at Kracow.
The airport of Kracow is very bizar because when you arrive with the plane on the pist you don’t see the airport, it’s only when you arrive at the end of the runway that you see a old construction and it’s the airport…

The bus wait for us next to the aiport. Thirty minutes later we were at the hotel.
From the outside the hotel looked not very beautifull, but inside it was very comfortable.
Our room was pretty with a beautifull bathroom,... Noway the hotel was very good !
We took the meal at the hotel and after we gone to visit the town of Kracow.

Tuesday 24th april .

We had visited the town of Kracow a second day , it’s a beautifull town, but there’s a lot of churches !
And that’s boring to visit to much churches !

Wednesday 25th april .

The third day was very cool ! !
We had visited the salt mine.
That's very impressing , the deepest place of the mine it’s 130 meters under the ground !

Thursday 26th april.

The 4th day was the most important for me because we had visited Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Before the visit i was thinking it would be very impressing, i was thinking it would be very difficult because of the ambiance in the camp…
But when i’ve visited the camp i was not very impressing because the weather was good , the bird were singing , some poeple were smiling, the sadness of the war was disaeper…
I think it's impossible to imagine all the horror that were happened in the concentration camp!
It's to horrible to imagine that was real...

Friday 27th april.

For me friday was the best day because we had gone in the mountain , in the town of Zakopane.
Zakopane is one of the most famous skiing station in Poland, Zakopane is next to the Carpates , exactly next to the Tatras , the highest part of the Carpates.
On friday we had also done a walk in typical boat.
We had sails between Poland and Slovakia .
The landscapes were very impressings and beautifulls!!

Saturday 28th april.

It's already the last day of our trip!
We must take the plane approximately at 19.00pm so we had all the day to visit.
We had gone one time more in Kracow to take a boat and "visit" the town from an other view...
That was great !
After we had visited churchs one times more.
At 17.00pm we were at the airport ready to came back in Belgium.
I was sad because I think the trip was to short...
At 20.30pm we take off and we arrived at 22.30 in Bruxelles airport.
At 00.30 we were in La Roche , that was great to see our parents and to came back at home!

I think the prettiest things that we seen in poland is the landscape from the city of Zakopane to the greatest mountains of poland. This landscape is atempt by the pollution and the massive industrialisation. The descent in the river was beautiful and quiet a litle to quiet for me that is pretty but very long at the end of the descent.I like mountain and i think poland mountain are nearly so pretty that the alps in France or Austria. When we descent the river Olivier do hairs with alga that he catch in the river. After we go to the market of Zakopane That was a big market but beautiful with a lot of possible present for family.

Beautifull!

Montains was beautifull, a landscape fantastic!
I liked the walk in raft because the nature in montains are very beautifull, this walk was resting, there was no noise, the river was quiet...
During this walk, there was 4 kayak and a moment, a boy fall from his kayak and the raft went towards him in the rapids! He just had the time to jump on the raft and my mother has to fish the rows... We laughed because boys bragged when they doubled us!

Cold!

For me, the Polish aren't sympathetic!
In shop, they don't speak us and they don't look us, it would be said that they are disturbed! However, without tourist, Cracow would be nothing... During the travel, I think that I was done hustled 50 times and and nobody was turned over for saying "pardon"...
Plus, in the village with the houses out of wooden, a little girl had her bicycle was "broken" and Nicolas wanted to repair it when the little girl (who was 7 years perheaps) stand up and she did a "fuck" to Nicolas! Nicolas was shocked... We, that made us laugh! :)
But, the guides was sympathetic...

The hen and its chicks

In the salt mine, I was a little disappointed.
I thought a visit in caves with small narrow ways and difficult passages but it was a very underground world. For me, it missed just a hotel! The caves was so arranged for tourist and I thought too than the salt would be white... And it was black...
But, I liked the guide! It was a too funny woman, she was very sympathetic, she joked and she spoke a very good french! But, the caves was very beautifull, espacially the big room with salt glosses and the other room with water, it was splendid.
But, I think that this visit was a little bit so long.

My opinion on the hotel

When Estelle, Julie and me arrived, our room wasn't yet ready.
Therefore, we have to benefit from the terrace outside the hotel, personnaly, I was a littel affraid when I was the hotel's color. The terrace is rather beautifull and we discussed a short time until our bedroom is ready.
Our room was very sympathetic and the bathroom is very good for a room of teenagers! The food in the hotel was very good, especially the first diner. The waiters was nice and they gave our beer the evening even if it was interdict for less 18 years old.
There was a lift, who helped us for the bags well.
In conclusion, I was very happy with this hotel!
